The Fair Play Engine
Every card is random. Every score is fair, whether you play off 2 or 32.
- Draw a card. It’s random, so anyone can get anything.
- Get your version. Skill cards are reworded for your handicap: a single-figure golfer has to shape it, a 30 handicapper just has to get it airborne and in play.
- Score fairly. Easy things pay less for good golfers and hard things pay more for beginners. Pure fun cards pay the same for everyone.
- See the maths. Tap Why this score? under any card on the scoring screen.
How the points work
Every card has a Skill Weight from 0 (pure fun) to 1 (very skill-based). Its points are its base points times a multiplier: 1 + Skill Weight × (handicap − 18) ÷ 36, kept between 0.5 and 1.5 and rounded to the nearest half point.
So a draw card worth 2 pays 1 point to a scratch golfer and 3 to a 36 handicapper, while a story or dare card pays 2 to everyone. A failed card scores 0 for anyone, and nobody loses points.
Your tier
No handicap counts as 18 until you enter one. Plus handicaps count as 0.
- Tier A: handicap under 10.
- Tier B: 10 to 18.
- Tier C: 19 to 28.
- Tier D: 29 and over.
Questions
- Does it change my handicap? No. It only adjusts game points and never touches your official handicap.
- Can we turn it off? Yes. Choose Full, Half or Off when setting up, in Trip settings, or in Why this score? during a round. Changing it recalculates the round on every phone.
- Can I cheat it? Not usefully. Handicaps are set before the round, you can’t pick your own tier, and failing on purpose scores 0.
Tip Show Bags use it too: skill pulls pay by the grabber’s handicap and show their version of the ask.
